• Also assists with work-in-progress review, credit returns, Reman cores, expense issues relating to daily activity in Service Office.
• Obtains backup material for warranty and policy reference material, as well as flat rates, standard jobs, and CSA pricing and scheduling.

POSTION SUMMARY: The Service Manager is accountable for all aspects of the Service Department and plays a vital role in the overall success of Altorfer in the territory. Responsible for basic facilty maintenance and support.

• Troubleshoots minor maintenance problems involving electrical, structural, plumbing and equipment repair or replacement.
• Performs general building maintenance and grounds duties, including snow removal and salting.
• Performs routine plumbing repairs.
• Performs routine electrical repairs such as changing light bulbs, repairing ballast and light fixtures, installing electric outlets.
• When completing these tasks, you may be required to work at heights, on ladder and/or man lift.
• Purchase supplies, equipment and materials necessary to complete projects.

Overview: This position is responsible for differentiating and understanding the operation of Caterpillar paving products, associated technology to create additional sales, and help grow market share. Success also depends on the ability to trouble-shoot paving associated problems, answer technology related questions, and determine if a question can be answered over the phone or in person. 

Basic Duties:  

• Serve as a liaison between Altorfer Inc., our customers, and Caterpillar Inc.

• Set up and assist Altorfer sales reps with equipment demonstrations to facilitate equipment sales.
• Handle new machine start-ups upon delivery. Evaluate the equipment with the customer to ensure it’s what the customers wants and start-up the equipment for the customer to reassure the equipment is working correctly.
• General on-site support: when customers have product issues, the Paving Specialist will assist the operator and try to resolve.

• Conduct and implement training as needed.
• Promote safety and environmental responsibility.
• 30% travel is required with some overnights when needed
• Offer support that meets or exceeds customer expectations and helps resolve customer issues.

Qualifications:            

• Knowledge and previous background in asphalt paving, milling, soil stabilization, and compaction preferred.

• Must be flexible during the paving season to work overtime and weekends as necessary.
• Willingness to travel to trade shows, store locations, other sites for training and stay overnight if required.

The purpose of the Shop Helper is to contribute to the overall efficiency of the shop by completing semi-skilled and unskilled tasks, enabling Journeyman Technicians to dedicate their time to tasks requiring highly-skilled and technical expertise.

PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

Semi-Skilled

• Assist Journeyman Technicians with skilled and/or technical jobs in the shop when a Journeyman is assigned to the job.
• Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled service on equipment, attachments, and components. May perform up to 500 hour interval PM services and associated tasks independently.
• Removal and installation of parts requiring use of hand and air operated tools only, excluding parts that require fine tuning for proper system operation.
• On a previously blocked-up machine, removal of undercarriage parts limited to the following: carrier rollers, and sprocket segments.
• Minor painting (not to include professional spray equipment) and heating associated with repair work.
• Conduct preliminary diagnosis of machinery, component, and system problems (Helpers may not use diagnostic equipment).
• Installation and replacement of minor electrical components, alternators, ECM’s excluding electric motors.
• Complete service reports as required
• Locate and use service literature and/or technical information as required
• Maintenance and repair of shop equipment and tools.

Unskilled

• Load/unload components, parts, equipment and machinery.
• Conduct machine inventories.
• Conduct storage tank and shop supplies and tool inventories.
• Maintain tanks and settling pits.
• Transport or deliver components and equipment as directed.
• Clean, pressure wash, or otherwise prepare equipment, mechanical parts and components.
• Maintain wash bays and associated equipment.
• Perform general shop and facilities clean-up as required.

• A successful candidate will be required to provide their own tools including but not limited to ¾ inch drive ratchet & socket sets, box wrench set up to1 ½ inch, ½ inch torque set, ½ inch drive impact tools and additional hand tools. Seeking individuals working in mechanical industries such as automobile, aviation, locomotive, truck or military mechanic applications to develop their skills for them to work in the heavy equipment industry. This program is designed to fast track individuals with previous mechanical experience in becoming an Altorfer Technician. This program provides ten different hands-on training classes. Individuals will attend training at the Altorfer Training Facility in East Peoria, IL, one week per month for 10 months. This position is starting within the Apprentice Classification of the applicable collective barginaing agreement. 

• Complete web-based training prerequisites, prior to attending instructor-led training.
• During instructor-led training you’ll be taught a different course each month. Courses such as: Intro and Orientation, Diesel Engines, Electrical 1, Electrical 2, Hydraulics, Powertrain 1, Powertrain 2, Tier 4 Final Emissions, Fuel Systems and A/C.
• When individuals are not attending training, they will perform service and repairs on Caterpillar and other types of heavy equipment.
• Operate equipment in a safe manner to find diagnostic errors or technical problems and determine proper solutions.
• Establish and maintain a service-oriented relationship with customers and supervisors.
• Complete service reports in a timely manner.
• Other duties as assigned.

• A minimum of two years’ of previous mechanical experience required.
• Basic knowledge in engine, electrical & hydraulic diagnostic, troubleshooting and repair skills.

• Maintain a deep understanding of component functionality to help determine root cause failure.

• Machines we operate: Rottler CNC, Kent digital lathe, magnaflux equipment and misc. smaller equipment
• Perform machine setup, operation and startup, restarting the machine, adjusts tooling to maintain proper sizes, replacing broken or worn tooling in a timely manner
• Ability to perform both manual and programmed repairs on the CNC

This position works in a shop/warehouse environment. May on a continuous basis walk, bend and lift up to 75 lbs. May be required to wear appropriate safety equipment (IE- Safety glasses or side shields) when needed. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. May intermittently sit at a desk for a period of time to answer telephone and write or use a keyboard to communicate through email. Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed. • Perform service and repairs on Caterpillar and other types of heavy equipment.
• Trouble-shoot and repair engine, hydraulic, electrical and all other systems.
• Provide excellent customer service to all customers.
• Operate equipment in a safe manner to find diagnostic errors or technical problems and determine proper solutions.
• Establish and maintain a service oriented relationship with customers and supervisors.
• Complete service reports in a timely manner.
• Other duties as assigned

• Successful completion of a formal technical training program with a minimum of three years’ experience required.
• Must have engine, electrical & hydraulic diagnostic, trouble shooting and repair skills.
