The Service Manager is accountable for all aspects of the Service Department and plays a vital role in the overall success of  Altorfer CAT in the East Dundee territory.  The Service Manager must possess a deep knowledge of construction equipment maintenance and repair, the skills necessary to ensure efficient shop operations and a continuous improvement mindset to include strong customer service and communication skills.

• Experienced, safety minded, team leader to manage the Heavy Equipment Service Department. Managing shop, and support personnel.
• Provide leadership to ensure safe, efficient and productive operations, while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.
• Demonstrate strong customer communication skills as well as the ability to manage and motivate a large, diverse workforce.
• Assist customers and technicians on repairs and define the scope of work to ensure expectations are met.
• Assist shop personnel, PSRs, and customers with quoting, opening, closing and invoicing work orders
• Oversee technician and supervisory staff productivity and performance including annual reviews, administering disciplinary action as necessary.
• Promote safety in the workplace and help lead technical and professional development.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• 2-4 year college degree or 10 years of Caterpillar Heavy Equipment repair experience. Previous supervisory experience helpful.
• Basic knowledge of diesel engine, hydraulic, electrical, and undercarriage systems.
• Knowledge of Caterpillar Equipment and Technical Training preferred.
• Must have the ability to express ideas and influence others in a positive manner to accomplish long term goals.

Shop supervisor is accountable for the efficiency and discipline of all shop technicians assigned to him/her. He/she must possess a deep knowledge of construction equipment repair processes and have excellent organizational skills. EDUCATION/QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE: 

• Associates degree preferred with minimum of two years management experience in construction equipment service and repair
• Candidate must be customer centric 
• Deep technical knowledge and training ability
• Experience as an Equipment Manager or Service Manager a plus
• Advanced user of all Microsoft Office products to include Excel
• Working knowledge of Caterpillar programs DBSi, PSQ , SMIS 2 and PSEL a plus

• Ability to understand, interpret and leverage performance metrics related to efficiency, productivity, profitability, safety, market share, resource deployment and general operations.

The Director of Product Support Sales & Marketing plays a crucial role in leading and managing all aspects of Product Support strategy and sales within our Heavy Construction division. This position is responsible for developing and executing the short-term strategy & long-term vision. The Director position will work closely with the Vice President of Product Support, the operations teams, the Marketing divison, and Caterpillar to ensure growth, exceptional customer service, consistent processes, and a high level of customer satisfaction.  Finally the Director will lead a team of >30 internal and external sale profressionals and managers.  They will develop and manage the team to meet yearly metrics.

The Director of Product Support Sales & Marketing plays a crucial role in leading and managing all aspects of Product Support strategy and sales within our Heavy Construction division. This position is responsible for developing and executing the short-term strategy & long-term vision. The Director position will work closely with the Vice President of Product Support, the operations teams, the Marketing divison, and Caterpillar to ensure growth, exceptional customer service, consistent processes, and a high level of customer satisfaction.  Finally the Director will lead a team of >30 internal and external sale profressionals and managers.  They will develop and manage the team to meet yearly metrics.

Job Duties / Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

• Be a champion for safety, review and improve safety processes whenever possible
  • Develop a plan to achieve a departmental RIF target.

• Develop & implement Product Support’s Long-term (3-year)&(1-year) short-term vision
• Develop and achieve a yearly revenue budget aligned with the vision.
  • Separate top line revenue budget into budgets by major class
  • Determine growth objectives by parts product class
  • Create a marketing and sales plan by major class code, work with marketing & service operations to implement the plan
    • Review results monthly, modify the marketing, sales tactics, or service operations practices where necessary to ensure top line revenue plan achievement.
  • Align the revenue budget with divisional vision
  • Create and drive metrics to support the achievement of the yearly revenue targets and divisional vision.

• Be the face of Altorfer with Caterpillar in terms of Products Support Initiatives and Growth targets.
  • Whenever possible and where beneficial to Altorfer align revenue and metrics with Caterpillar’s metrics
  • Where Altorfer’s product support metrics and Caterpillars don’t align develop and defend a business case for using our metrics in place of the Caterpillar metrics
  • Use the details from month sales calls to develop marketing and sales variance plans with Caterpillar
  • Develop and deliver the monthly update presentations
  • Build a strong and cohesive relationship with Caterpillar and its representatives
  • Ensure that the Product Support team has a positive attitude and is continually looking to improve our relationships with Caterpillar.
  • Establish PSR, ISR, & eCommerce metrics:
    • Scorecard, sales funnel, and review process
    • Establish PAR goals, Customer Data Management, and growth goals per sales representative
    • Establish monthly sales meeting with each sales manager to review deals in the sales funnel and other metrics
    • Implement a universal commission plan
      • Plan should be mixed between maintaining current business but driving growth
  • Maintain key relationships with our Top 20 customers. Leverage those relationships to assist in growth initiatives when necessary.
    • Develop a customer “maintain, grow, conquest” list. Work with each PSR and their respective branches to set targets for each class.  Use branch town hall meetings to review progress with the target customers from the list.

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.

Payrate: $30,000-$40,000 annual base salary plus commission.

This position will spend a good portion of time traveling to customer jobsites. May work in an office environment, sitting at a desk for a period of time to answer phone calls or use a keyboard to complete documents and communicate through email. May be required to wear appropriate safety equipment (IE- Safety glasses or side shields) when needed. May on a continuous basis walk, bend and lift up to 20lbs and on occassion up to 75lbs. Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed. The overall function of a Product Support Solutions Representative is to focus on growing and sustaining Parts and Service sales. Increase Altofer's market share by providing cost saving solutions to help lower customer’s owning and operating costs. This job is an outside sales position that requires a significant amount of driving.

PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

• Schedule customer visits in conjunction with PAR requirements.
• Effectively market/communicate offerings and campaigns that position Altorfer as the clear Product Support choice.
• Sell Altorfer goods and services as solutions that assist customers in lowering their equipment owning and operating costs.
• Provide feedback internally to drive change sufficient to meet market demands and provide viable customer solutions by participating in PSSR meeting/providing weekly territory updates to Product Support Field Sales Manager.
• Extensive knowledge of customer’s and territory (including financial status and past sales volume) well enough to forecast growth potential, select target accounts, and identify need for alternative solutions.
  Work safely at all times. Adhere to applicable safety policies
• Using Caterpillars ultrasonic measuring tool & CTS program to manage all track type machines within the PSSR’s territory
• Manage customer ground engaging tool needs, updating them on current options that lower their equipment owning and operating costs.
• Provide better customer experiences by educating the customer on various service facilities and capabilities while involving any necessary experts in the solution process.
• Monitor and communicate competitive information to assure Altorfer always has the advantage.
• Utilize available technology (Internet, Email) to stay current on latest offerings, developments, and campaigns in an effort to communicate current issues to customers.
• All customer quotes are presented in a thorough, professional manner.
• Document and communicate any issues that impact customer satisfaction to the appropriate area utilizing (CIM) Customer Issue Management. Seek assistance from Product Support Sales Manager for additional help in resolving an issue.
• Work within and promote corporate values.
  Effectively manage contact information, machine population, opportunities, activities, campaigns, utilizing Sale Link CRM software as outline in the SalesLink guidelines located on the company intranet.
  Must complete training requirements and meet timelines for each training module
• Follow up with all leads within 2 days as outlined in the SalesLink guidelines located on the company intranet.
• Utilize CIM (Customer Issue Management) software to track customer issues to ensure they are resolved in within 10 days.
• Perform basic (TAI) machine inspections
• Analyze customer oil samples, and advise them of corrective action

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE:

• A four year undergraduate degree from an accredited college preferred.
• Strong technical knowledge and understanding of heavy equipment / systems & components
• A minimum of at least five years demonstrated previous successful Outside sales record in the construction industry

Maintain and grow parts and service sales within assigned territory.

• Assists customers with sales needs. This includes establishing, qualifying, maintaining contact with small to medium-sized customers to increase sales of machines, work tools, rentals, parts and service solutions.
• Mail and email electronic and other promotional campaigns to assigned accounts.
• Investigate and troubleshoot customer service issues.
• Make outbound follow-up calls to existing customers via telephone and e-mail cross-sell and up-sell.
• Handle inbound calls and convert them into sales.
• Measure U/C and report to customer with quote.
• Conduct TA1 inspections and report to customers with quotes.
• Manage 300 to 500 active customer accounts.

• Degree from an accredited college preferred or 1-3 years related experience and/or training: or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Mechanic knowledge preferred to understand customer equipment needs to provide the customer with equipment solutions.
• Strong customer service skills to maintain long term strategic relationships.
• Able to effectively network throughout the organization to obtain resources required to meet or exceed customer expectations.
• Strong computer skills needed for DBS, ServiceLink and SalesLink/CRM software, PSQ, and CAT Inspect. Must be familiar with programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and database management.
• Must be a self-starter with good time and territory management skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are necessary for phone, in-person and email communications.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment as a well-organized team player.
• Willingness to learn with a prompt and strong attendance record.
