We are pleased to announce the successful installation of a Panasonic Toughbook laptop GPS Kit on a Challenger 95E pulling a pull-type scraper. The system combines a construction grade (vibration tested) laptop with Trimble SCS900 software, providing a large, user-friendly computer screen that helps the operator simultaneously manage multiple job sites.
When fitted with a wireless air card, the laptop can send and receive jobsite files via email. Work site change orders may be received electronically and uploaded within minutes. And having the laptop up and running during the workday provides the operator access to vital information available on the internet, such as weather radar—extremely useful for planning purposes.

“This revolutionary system will expand the capabilities of our customers” said Trevis Adair, Manager of Altorfer Cats’ Technology Solutions Division. “Customers will find this a more economical way of pursuing machine control and guidance, while broadening their GPS capabilities at the same time.”
When asked about the Challenger GPS Kit, Jon Rathje of Rathje Construction smiled and said “We couldn’t be happier. The Challenger kit with the Toughbook laptop provides us with the same information we would collect from a GPS Rover—but has the flexibility of a laptop computer.”
